Summer

©2009 Bailey Thompson

The ground is covered with a blanket of snow,

Oh, how I wish that blanket would go!

The end of March means the end is near

How long do I have to wait until it’s finally here?

We’re ready for the long awaited end

The time when our hibernating hearts will mend

It’ll be the time when the sun will melt the snow

And outdoors, people will begin to show

Out of hibernations they all appear,

All excited for summer is almost here

They call their work spring cleaning and what not

They’re just using their energy, since they’ve got a lot

The first warm day, the ladies get a tan

While the sun burns every trying man

And by night everyone is ready for bed

All their energy burnt from the day they led

With each day the temperature gets warmer

And people know summer is around the corner

They clean and they plant, prepare and cook

So that their house has that summertime look

June 21st is the day they’ve all been waiting for

It’s officially summer when they open their door

Just a few more days until school will be out

Students can’t wait until they can do without

On the last day, they wait for the final bell to ring

Full of excitement over what summer will bring

They tell their friends and teachers good bye

Saying they’d miss them even if it’s a lie

For home they all happily run

What’s first for the summer’s fun?

There’s warmth and excitement in the air

And soft cool breezes whipping through hair

Families go on vacation to places like the beach

It’s more of an experience then school could teach

Filled with memories of fun in the sun

That will remain when summers done

Couples spend time together and explore

Walking along the sandy beach shore

Kissing each other watching the sun set

Reminiscing about the day they met

Kids run around with their friends and play

From early morning until the end of day

Making games, stories and all things pretend

They will play until the summers end

Grandparents sit back and enjoy

The fun over every girl and boy

Entertaining their kids and every other

But always find time for one another

In summer we always find something fun to do

Whether we’re single or it’s more than just you

Creating happy memories that will last forever

Memories to keep us smiling through whatever

But summer will come and summer will go

In the end, winter will always show

And people will hibernate away

Until the next sunny day

What can I say? I like to write!
