Everything happens for a reason

©2009 Bailey Thompson

There’s one question in life

That no one seems to know

It’s the question of why

Does life go where it goes

Why is life on earth

Why does everyone die

Why are some people healthy

While others breathe their last sigh

Some believe it all happens at random

Others have a theory

That everything happens for a reason

The idea is quite eerie

Are some events

Placed for a reason

To help guide a life

So they stay until next season

Is this god’s way

To give us a sign

To know what to do

So that we’ll be fine

When something bad happens,

It’s helps to believe it was in the plan

Maybe it had a reason

Planned when life began

Is there a reason

Certain people become ill

Did they need to learn a lesson

Was it god’s will?

Although the truth isn’t known

It’s comforting to believe

That everything happens for a reason

It’s a gift we receive.

Author's Note: This is another poem from my grade 8 poetry anthology. This is also a free verse. You may be able to figure out, but the topic of my anthology was "life and death". It had been something that had been on my mind since I can remember and poetry helped me get out some ideas. I am a very firm believer that certain events in life DO happen for a reason. It's comforting. When something bad happens, I always look at it as if it was meant to happen, something will come out of it, it happened for a reason in each life that it affected. It also goes to show how much people are connected together. I like the theory. Although it is a personal idea, other people may not agree and that's fine too. We all have our ideas about life because to be completely honest, no one knows the truth, we can only imagine.
