A Broken Friendship

It doesn’t make sense!

Everything is so tense.

Why can’t I change it?

Why can’t I fix it?

It’s not their fault or my fault

That it just stopped at a painful halt

Everything is different now

I don’t understand why or how…

We were best friends,

We thought till the end,

Before long something changed,

Which made me very pained

A new friend was found

She forgot without a sound

I watched as they left

One seeming like a theft

I was wishing they could see,

Just how they were hurting me

I still see them, but it’s just not the same

With all the pain

I know it happens all the time,

But I wish we could draw the line

I still remember that time,

They ignored and left me at break,

It was more than I could take.

When it happened once more,

It made it hurt really sore.

It all just seems so insane,

That my friends would cause all this pain

Is it true I’ve lost a friend?

Or is it just a lie to defend?

We used to be hip-to-hip

Now it’s a broken friendship.

Author's Note: This was written as in grade 7, the assignment was to write a rap. I had no idea what I was doing and poured the pain of the last few weeks onto paper. To be honest, I hated the result. I showed my mother who looked at me with amazement and started sharing it with friends and family. Their reactions were unbelievable. It was quite surprising for me. Later that year, I added a few words and changed it around a little and presented it to the class. Again, the reactions were surprising. Which it why it's here.

What can I say? I like to write!
